“Healthy Lungs for Life!” is the slogan that combines the missions of the European Lung Foundation (ELF) and The European Respiratory Society (ERS.)

In less than three months, you will be hearing about the “Healthy Lungs for Life,” and its world-wide campaign for clean air and healthy lungs.

The two international organizations recently stated in a news release, “We will be spreading the message about the importance of air quality for lung health to scientists, healthcare professionals, policy makers, patients and members of the public through events during the ERS Congress in Munich, and across the globe…”

Most health organizations will be celebrating World Spirometry Day in association with this campaign. You have heard us speak of it previously, and we celebrate it annually.

Hundreds of health organizations will be championing the Healthy Lungs for Life promotional ideas and celebrating the simple beauty of taking a painless spirometry test for lung health.

Like the Florida Lung, Asthma and Sleep Specialists, many agencies world-wide have pledged to “raise the profile of lung health.”

FLASS joins forces with ELF and ERS to bring you our summary of what we like to call the Big Three Statistical Concerns, below:

1. There is no doubt that lung diseases are global health issues. Do you know that lung diseases cause about one sixth of all deaths worldwide?

2. In spite of research and technology, the impact of lung disease is consistently as large and far-reaching today “as it was at the turn of the century.” Sadly, the experts tell us this statistic likely to continue for several decades in the future.

3. Lung diseases can instigate disability, low quality of life issues, and death before your time. The financial costs of lung disease, including primary care, hospital care and treatments is almost prohibitive to many families.

The loss of the individual, valuable productivity of patients who can no longer work, and people who die early, cannot be measured.

The Florida Lung Doctors’ Blog hereby officially invites you to check out the new “Healthy Lungs for Life Website,” which publishes information about coming events that celebrate Healthier breathing throughout the world.

“Hidden” Resources for You

Undoubtedly, our readers are aware of such resources as the American Lung Association, but we sometimes forget to look beyond the borders of the U.S.A.
We hope you will check out the information on file at the ELF website.

Some of the information concerns the Europe. Some concerns America, and all of it focuses on the respiratory health of the Earth.

For example, you can find a link to an interesting study on North Carolina and the correlation between air pollution and death statistics.

Simply reading that one article might be enough to convince you to advocate legislation for traffic emission controls in your town, state, or country.

Likewise, their factsheets are packed with information on lung diseases and treatments.

See their fascinating index at this convenient source.

If you are searching for respiratory information, you might also like the online presence of the European Respiratory Society,

which hosts the highly informative and prestigious European Respiratory Journal.

Although our blog topic has been to help you think outside the map, the doctors and staff of the Florida Lung, Asthma and Sleep Specialists

also want to be among the first to wish you a happy, healthy, and wholesome Fourth of July Celebration.

We hope you will drive carefully, and remember the Florida high-ways and by-ways can be dangerous to life, limb and lungs during any Holiday week-end.

Thank you for reading our blog, and make plans now to have a Happy and Safe Independence Day!
