A new physician is in the spotlight at FLASS this week. Just as we promised, we are dedicating this blog to a new physician: Dr. Miguel Ortiz-Bonilla. Around FLASS, we know him as Dr. Ortiz. And we are presenting him to our readers now, as he has recently joined the staff.
In our last blog, we welcomed both Dr. Miguel Ortiz-Bonilla and Dr. Francis Christian to our FLASS family. Previously, we focused our attention on the experience and achievements of Dr. Christian.
Now, our focus turns to Dr. Miguel Ortiz-Bonilla.
Jacqueline Blanco, the FLASS Practice Administrator commented, “Dr. Miguel Ortiz was referred to us by Dr. Arelis Cordero. She joined our group a couple of years ago. They have known each other for years.”
She added, with happy irony, “He has followed the same program path she has taken… including now, joining the same wonderful group of physicians,” here at FLASS.
Focusing on Dr. Miguel Ortiz-Bonilla
Dr. Ortiz-Bonilla is a highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated physician. Recently he stated that his goal “is to provide quality care to his patients and make sure your health is in good hands.” This sentiment perfectly matches our patient-centered philosophy here at Florida Lung, Asthma, and Sleep Specialists.
Likewise, we are certain that those of us who suffer from COPD, Lung Cancer, Asthma, and other lung-related problems, will be happy to know that his interest mirrors yours.
Dr. Ortiz also states that treatment of “asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer” are among his primary interest and concerns. Chances are that this new FLASS physician might be treating, consulting, or at least meeting you. Thus, we believe his qualifications, and experience will interest you.
Why You Should Care Your New Physician is Board Certified
Dr. Ortiz-Bonilla is Board certified in Internal medicine and Pulmonary Disease by the internal American Board of Internal Medicine. And why should readers care about that?
We often hear the words “Board-Certified associated with doctors. However, do we really know the meaning behind that certification? It is only attained after years of work, study, and examinations. Thus, if your doctors are board-certified in their specialties, it means they have passed periodic exams to test their knowledge in their special fields at the highest level of difficulty.
Board certification assures you as a patient that a physician is up to date in recent procedures and medicines in his field. It also means your doctor is being reviewed by peers.
In fact, experts explain to doctors that “Passing your boards demonstrates that you have met rigorous standards and have the clinical judgment, skills, and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent patient care.”
Physicians can be certified in their field and, in many cases, in their specialty. And now you know that Dr. Miguel Bonilla-Ortiz’s Board Certification is a very meaningful accomplishment. And it is critical to becoming part of the FLASS family of physicians.

New Physician: Back to the Future: 2021
Our time travel into Dr. Ortiz’s background has brought us Back to the Future, and to a personal level.
Despite his full professional schedule, Dr. Ortiz maintains an avid interest in many sports. He gravitates to baseball, softball, and volleyball. Likewise, mountain biking and Kung Fu fascinate him.
By the way, if he is not working, you might find our new physician reading or indulging in his artistic hobby of sketching and painting.
Moreover, he is a passionate cook, and if you are lucky, you might find him baking pastries. (We will all drop hints about this at Christmastime.)
Remarkably, this new physician knows how to prioritize his time so he can spend a little while at the beach. And when off-duty, he always gives top priority to his family and friends.
