As we promised you last Spring, Summer of 2013 is bringing exciting changes to the Florida Lung, Asthma & Sleep Specialists. We recently introduced new staff member Dr. Itzra Sherif  to you, and now, we will soon be bringing  you another new face!

South Carolina’s loss will most certainly become Florida’s gain in the case of the newest physician joining our staff this summer. We are excited to be soon extending a sunny Florida welcome to our new staff member, Dr. Don Elton, M.D., F.C.C.P. Although born in Palo Alto California, Dr. Elton completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital / University of South Carolina. He was licensed in South Carolina before coming to Florida. His fellowship was completed at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial and Dorn Veterans Hospital, Columbia, SC.

The Florida Lung Doctors can truthfully say he is literally ‘flying’ in to join the doctors at the Center For Lung, Asthma and Sleep Studies, because he has been a licensed pilot for many years! His diverse background includes medical research, computer software design, teaching and professional speaking. Dr. Elton has been in private practice since 1997, at Lexington Pulmonary and Critical Care, a practice he has owned.

He has shared his healing gifts as a teacher as well as a practicing physician. Various facilities, such as Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital / University of South Carolina School of Medicine have benefited from his lectures.

Hundreds of doctors have shared his knowledge during numerous medical conferences where he has been featured as a speaker. An example is his participation in the South Carolina Society for Respiratory Care Scientific Symposium on Life Threatening Asthma in 2000.

In recent years Dr. Elton has participated or led countless research programs, and as has spoken for many reputable pharmaceutical companies, including such notable companies as Astra Zeneca, Gilead, and Forrest. Advanced procedural skills, as well as years of diagnostic expertise, will be Dr. Don Elton’s gifts to the Florida Lung, Asthma and Sleep Studies Center. As it states on his own website, he will be working to diagnose and treat patients with asthma, COPD, emphysema, sarcoidosis, lung cancer and rare respiratory diseases. “Dr. Elton has special interest and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, and other pulmonary vascular disorders. In addition to conducting clinical trials in these areas, he frequently helps educate other health care providers about how to diagnose and care for these conditions.”

We are proud to introduce Dr. Don Elton to the Florida Lung Doctors, to Florida, and to beautiful Orlando and its surrounding communities.

We promise to bring you more news about the excitement around our growing office, as the “Summer of Amazement, 2013,” continues.
