Welcome To Our New Sleep Center!

As we greet the New Year, some of our big news includes our new Poincianna Sleep Center, which opened its doors officially on Dec. 16th, at our location.

The new lab offers two state of the art sleep testing bedrooms in an secure, comfortable and private environment.

Referring physicians can feel confident in the state of the art polysonagraphic sleep testing offered by Dr. Fortune Alabi, M.D., F.C.C.P., who is board certified in sleep medicine. He and his talented team are experienced in identifying and treating common as well as unusual sleep disorders.

At the facility, we offer include diagnostic and therapeutic polysomnography. We can provide sophisticated data to patients and referring physicians. A night in the Poincianna Sleep Center will assist in the analysis and diagnosis of the following possible diseases:

  • Obstructive, Central and Mixed sleep apnea, as well as Hypopnea
  • Snoring
  • Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep (Restless Leg Syndrome)
  • Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (CPAP and BiPAP)
  • Cheyne-Stokes Respiration (In this periodic breathing pattern, a patient takes only couple brief breaths per minute, followed by long periods of apnea.)

Fascinating Factoids About Apnea: Why Do Patients and Physicians Need The Poincianna Sleep Center?

Did you know one in five adults has mild apnea? Moderate to severe OSA(obstructive sleep apnea.) afflicts one in fifteen adults. Experts have recently revealed that apnea effects nine per cent of middle-aged women, and twenty-five per cent of men, both of whom are currently in the U.S. work force.

To put this in perspective, the prevalence of this condition compares to asthma with its 20 million sufferers, and to diabetes with its 23 million sufferers. Such facts demonstrate that it is time for public awareness and a sharp focus on treatments of this misunderstood and dangerous condition. On the cutting edge of this diagnostic need, the Lung, Asthma and Sleep Center Specialists created a first class, convenient Sleep Center.

For The Patient–Take The Lung Doctors’ Big Six Question Apnea Quiz:

If you think you might have sleep apnea, do not wait. It can be a serious risk for a cardiac condition, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, erectile dysfunction, and arrhythmia. Naturally, you should discuss any suspicions you have about your health, your breathing, and your sleep, with your doctor. As a starting point, ask your self the Lung Doctors’ Big Six Sleep Apnea Questions:

• Has some one told you that you snore?

• Females: Does your neck size measure more than 16 inches?

• Males: Does your neck size measure more than 17 inches?

• Do you often wonder why you feel sleepy, tired or exhausted, several times a day?

• Have you been diagnosed with high blood pressure?

• Has anyone ever told you that you appear to stop breathing while you are asleep?

In our next blog, we will bring you information about how to spend the night at the Poinciana Sleep Center, and what it can do for you!

If you answered several of the above, yes, then we suggest you talk to your doctor about sleep apnea.

Again, we send you our personal wishes for all the wonder and magic of the holidays.  May all your dreams come true, asleep or awake!
