2021 Gratitude: The FLASS Family and Yours
Every year at this special season of gratitude, we extend thanks to our friends and patients. In fact, we have a long 2021 list of blessings to count. We are also grateful for our colleagues, our referring physicians, patients and their families, and blog readers.
The FLASS doctors and staff here in Central Florida are very grateful to be part of your journey to feeling better. FLASS believes the Thanksgiving season is the perfect time to display our gratitude to you. Indeed, we are grateful you are part of our affectionately named FLASS family—which includes all of you.
An Attitude of Gratitude for Our Special 2021 Thanksgiving
In honor of our 2021 Thanksgiving and in gratitude for life and breath, we dedicate this blog and a few of our favorite Thanksgiving health-related suggestions.
As healthcare professionals, our doctors, as well as our staff, are especially concerned for your heart and lung health over the holidays.
The following pieces of advice are short, wonderful ideas that will help you better enjoy breath and life in this season of thankful celebration.
The 2021 “Thankful-for-Breath-and-Life Walk”
We know you will be having a sumptuous Thanksgiving family feast at dinner. However, we would be remiss if we did not advise you to take a brisk little walk on that busy morning.
This should be a private walk. We want it to be something healthy that you do for yourself on a day you will dedicate to many others. It sounds odd, we know. However, please consider it.
- Use the time on your short, private, 2021 Thankful-for-Life-and-Breath Walk to mentally review your final lists of Thanksgiving Day chores.
- Take the time to make a short walk, even if it’s just down your block. Take a few moments to breathe deep as you mentally review plans for food preparations or packing a trip. Your lungs will love it! Plus, your stress level will reduce.
The Important 2021 Thankful for Breath and Life Breakfast
Likewise, for breath and life, you also require a breakfast–even on Thanksgiving, and even if it is only a snack. Be aware that starving your system with the idea of saving calories for the big meal is a fallacy that causes you to over-eat.
- And as you know, over-indulgence at your Turkey Day feast makes you feel breathless, bloated, and miserable.
- So, regulate your appetite with a nice little breakfast. You’ll be glad you did.
The After Dinner 2021 Rewards of Physical Activity
A little while after your festive meal, find some time to participate in a family walk or bike ride. These are such good activities for your lungs, your life, and your breath.
Doing something physical instead of sitting or napping at this time can pump life into your lungs and heart and even reduce a few calories.
Thus, avoid the urge to flop on the couch after the feast. That flopping will feel much better after your little walk, bike ride, or family dodgeball game.
Special Note to Severe COPD Sufferers
For those who suffer from severe COPD symptoms: We realize that many of our patients may be especially stressed during this time of year.
Fears and concerns of the pandemic add to the stress of the season. Shopping and visiting probably add stress that you certainly could do without. It could be of value to review some of our earlier blogs. We especially recommend one called the “FLASS 5 Strategies for Sleeping With COPD.”
Thankful for Liberty, Life and, Country
In closing, the FLASS health providers and staff present you with the thankful speech of Abraham Lincoln. You might not have ever heard of them, although we quoted them in a previous blog many years ago.
Still, these words stand the test of time. They seem as perfect for our celebration of 2021 Thanks for Breath and Life as they were in Lincoln’s own time.
He stated, “It has seemed to me fit and proper that (God’s gifts) should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged with one heart and one voice by the whole American people.
And he added, “I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens…to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”-Quoted From President Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1863
We found another 2021 Thankful thought-provoking quote to share with you, our friends, patients, and blog readers:
“Happiness is the realization of God in the heart. Happiness is the result of praise and thanksgiving, of faith, of acceptance; a quiet tranquil realization of the love of God.” – Quoted from White Eagle
Again, the staff and the doctors of FLASS here in Orlando, Florida offer you the finest of Thanksgiving wishes. Take a deep breath and be thankful for it. We are.
